    Fan Guangyu is a senior expert in China's millet-sorghum industry technical system. He serves as a committee member of the Crop Science Society of China Millet Crops Committee and a member of the coarse cereal branch of the China Association of Agricultural Science Societies. Additionally, he holds a researcher position at the Zhangjiakou Academy of Agricultural Sciences and is the director of the Millet Research Institute.

    For over a decade, Fan has dedicated himself to hybrid millet breeding, consistently aligning his efforts with market demands and addressing major challenges in the millet value chain. He champions the notion of driving technological advancements through scientific research. A fervent advocate for self-reliance and innovation, he also emphasizes the synergy between science, technology, and economy to support the overarching goal of revitalizing the seed industry.

    Fan has spearheaded and contributed to numerous key projects in hybrid millet breeding. His endeavors have borne significant results: he's been honored with five provincial and ministerial awards and received two merit recognitions. He has led or been involved in six scientific research projects, which include two national-level projects and four at the provincial and ministerial level. Moreover, he has formulated five local standards and holds nine national patents to his name.

    Fan has successfully bred ten new millet varieties. Notably, the "Zhangzagu hybrid millet No. 13" currently stands as the hybrid millet variety with the most extensive adoption nationwide. His development of the disease-resistant sterile line AL2 represents a pivotal advancement in the enhancement of hybrid millet breeding. Fan's relentless efforts have substantially elevated the hybrid millet industry's production capacity, quality, efficiency, and innovation, not only in his city but also at the provincial and national levels. As a testament to his dedication, "Zhangzagu hybrid millet" has emerged as a prominent identifier for his city.
